Mansfield’s Best Spots for Pet Owners

Mansfield’s own trail system and its seven-acre dog park make it one of the easier cities in south Tarrant County to own a dog in. Here are the spots our sitters recommend:

Mans Best Field Dog Park — 610 W. Broad Street, 76063, and the one thing every Mansfield dog owner should know about. Seven acres on the old homestead of city co-founder Ralph Man in Historic Downtown Mansfield, with four fenced paddocks on a wooded, hilly lot. Paddocks are split by size — large is 40 lbs and over, and large dogs may not enter the small-dog side — and the city rotates which paddocks are open to rest the grass, so read the signs each visit. Hours are 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. March through October and 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. November through February, closed every Tuesday for maintenance, and closed for mud or weather. The status line is updated daily: (817) PAT-DOGS, or 817-728-3647. Two rules catch people out: every dog must be registered with the City of Mansfield even if you live somewhere else, and no toys, treats or food of any kind are allowed inside the paddocks. Three dogs per adult, nobody under 12 inside the paddocks, and a hand-held leash from the car to the gate.

Katherine Rose Memorial Park — 303 N. Walnut Creek Drive, 33 acres of open space and big trees dating to 1996, and by the city’s own description one of the most used and most loved parks in Mansfield. Fishing is allowed, and the Walnut Creek Linear Trail runs straight out of it, which is what makes it a go-to for daily walks rather than a one-off outing.

Elmer W. Oliver Nature Park — 1650 Matlock Road, and not the small park it is often described as: 82 acres of woods, open fields, natural ponds and granite trails that Mansfield calls the crown jewel of its parks system. It opened in 2014 and grew in phases. It stays quiet even on weekends, which is the whole appeal, and the granite surface is easier on older joints than concrete.

Walnut Creek Linear Trail — the real backbone of dog walking in Mansfield: roughly two miles of 12-foot-wide paved path linking five parks, built out in phases since 2007. Town Park at 500 N. Main Street to Katherine Rose and back is about 1.5 miles. Know the hours before you plan an evening walk — lighted sections are open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., unlighted sections close 30 minutes after sundown.

Fields at Station 63 — 500 Heritage Parkway S. If you are looking for Big League Dreams Mansfield, this is it under a new name. The city took over operations, closed it for a full renovation, and reopened it in September 2025 as Fields at Station 63. Open green space and sidewalks around the complex make an easy leashed loop when you want to stay close to central Mansfield, but check the event schedule first, because tournament weekends fill the lot.

Loyd Park on Joe Pool Lake — and a correction — this one gets miscredited to Mansfield constantly, including by us until now. Loyd Park is at 3401 Ragland Road in Grand Prairie, roughly 791 acres on the west shore of the lake, run by the City of Grand Prairie at 972-237-4120. Census boundary data puts the water of Joe Pool Lake and its west shore inside Grand Prairie city limits, not Mansfield’s. It is still a genuinely good trail day out of Mansfield, and the shaded lakeside singletrack is worth the drive, but budget for the $20 per vehicle gate fee and expect a drive rather than a neighborhood walk.

Historic Downtown Mansfield — Mansfield’s original Main Street core. A walkable downtown with shops and patios — a fun leashed outing when you want more than a neighborhood sidewalk.

Does a 76063 address mean I live inside Mansfield city limits?

Not automatically. When we checked points inside the 76063 ZIP tabulation area against Census place boundaries, some of them came back unincorporated rather than City of Mansfield. That is normal at the edges of a growing city. It matters for city services, animal control and the dog park license, so we confirm the actual jurisdiction at the meet-and-greet rather than reading it off the envelope.

Three. The license is $15, with a $5 discount if the animal is spayed or neutered and another $5 off if it is microchipped. Applications go through Mansfield Animal Care and Control at 407 W. Industrial Blvd., 76063, (817) 276-4799, open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., about a mile from the park.

Hours are 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. from March through October and 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. from November through February. Call it before you drive, especially the day after rain.

What are the rules inside the paddocks that people get wrong?

The ones we see missed most: no toys, treats or food of any kind, human or dog. No more than three dogs at a time. No female dog in heat and no puppies under four months. The leash has to be a physical hand-held leash, not an electronic one, and you keep a visible leash for every dog even after you unclip. Spiked and pinch collars come off at the gate. Children under 12 are not allowed inside the off-leash area at all, 12 to 16 must be with an adult, and nobody under 16 may bring a dog in. Organized group functions and professional dog training businesses are prohibited inside the fence.

Will you take my dog to Mans Best Field while I am away?

No. On the clock our sitters keep dogs leashed, so we will not turn your dog loose in a paddock even if you ask us to. It is worth adding that Mansfield’s own rules prohibit professional dog training and organized group functions inside the off-leash area, so a paid handler running dogs in there was never really the intended use. We will walk the perimeter and the downtown streets around it instead, on leash, and leave the paddock time to you.
