Cat sitting in Justin

Community Park — The concrete walking trail here is the most reliable leashed loop in town, with children’s play structures, three baseball and coed softball fields, a youth softball field and soccer fields around it. It is signposted simply as Community Park, which is worth knowing when you are giving a sitter directions.

Reatta Park — A concrete basketball court, a walking trail, play structures, a covered pavilion with grills, and a pond with its own observation deck. The pond is the reason this is our most-used stop with dogs who like water they are not allowed in.

Bishop Park — Small, historical, and quiet: a historical marker, a creek observation deck, and picnic tables with barbecue grills. A short, shaded pause rather than a workout.

City Hall Park — A tennis court, a sand volleyball court, a practice backstop, play structures and a covered pavilion with a grill. Central, so it is often the easiest place to meet a client who wants to hand over a key in person.

Tally Park and Peterson Park — Tally is a catch-and-release-only fishing pond. Peterson sits just south of the water tower, on the east side of Timberbrook Parkway at 7th Street, on a parcel Bloomfield donated to the city for a new neighborhood park.

The Timberbrook trail along Oliver Creek — The start of Justin’s trail system, just north of Timberbrook Parkway. The city has said future phases may add sports fields, dog parks and further trail extensions. There is no off-leash park in Justin yet, so for now the creek trail and your own street are the walk.

One thing Justin residents should know — there is no local animal shelter. Justin took the lead on a Regional Animal Control Initiative for southwest Denton County and southeast Wise County, and Boyd, Decatur, Justin, Krum, Newark, New Fairview, Northlake, Paradise, Ponder, Rhome and Denton County jointly funded the feasibility study. The city contracted Connolly Architects and Consultants in December 2025, and the next step is settling on a site and releasing an RFP for the shelter design. Until that exists, a pet that gets out here has a long way to go before anyone official picks it up — which is a large part of why we do not hand keys around and do not let dogs off leash on our time.

Justin Neighborhoods We Serve

Justin is small, so “which neighborhood” is a real question here rather than a formality. A sitter who knows the difference between a Timberbrook cul-de-sac and a five-acre place off a county road will not be late.

Timberbrook — The largest of the newer communities, strung along Timberbrook Parkway. The city’s trail system starts just north of the parkway along Oliver Creek, and Peterson Park is going in south of the water tower at 7th Street. Sidewalks, streetlights, and dogs that are used to seeing people.

Reatta — Sidewalks and cul-de-sacs, with Reatta Park and its pond as the anchor. This is the easiest part of Justin to schedule a midday walk in.

Old Town Justin — The historic stretch around FM 156 and the railroad. Older homes, mature trees, narrow sidewalks, and a fair number of cats who own the porch.

The FM 156 corridor — The newer building along the highway, north and south. Convenient for us because a sitter can string several visits together without leaving the road.

The acreage — Ranch and small-holding properties on the county roads outside town. Gates, cattle guards, long driveways, sometimes livestock as well as pets. We ask for the gate code and the lay of the land at the meet-and-greet, because guessing at dusk on a gravel drive is how things go wrong.

Toward Harvest and Northlake — The eastern edge of our Justin coverage runs into Northlake and up toward Argyle. Same sitters, same rates, and no extra charge for crossing the county line.

Is 76247 only Justin, or is it shared?

76247 is Justin’s code — Justin is the default city name on it. The Postal Service also accepts Northlake as an alternate name on 76247, which is why some of your mail neighbors are technically in a different town. If you are in Justin proper this page is your team; if you are on the Northlake side, that page is.

Justin doesn’t have many parks. Where would our dog actually get walked?

The park list is short enough that our sitters know all of it, which is an advantage rather than a limitation. Is there a trail system in Justin?

Tally Park is the other calm option, though note its pond is catch-and-release fishing only, so expect anglers.

Is there an off-leash dog park in Justin?

Not one we can point you to inside the city, and we are not going to invent one. It also would not change how we work: on the clock our sitters keep dogs leashed, so we do not turn a client’s dog loose in a run regardless of what is available. Every Justin visit is a leashed walk, and for most dogs here that is a street and a creek path rather than a fenced acre of strangers’ dogs.

Can we hand over a key somewhere central instead of at home?

We can, and City Hall Park is where that usually happens — it is central, easy to find, and has a covered pavilion to stand under. That said, we would rather do the handover at your house as part of the free consultation, because the key is the least important thing the sitter needs to learn.

Does the railroad through Old Town bother dogs?

For some, badly. The line runs right through the historic stretch around FM 156, and a train at close range is a genuinely frightening thing for a sound-sensitive dog on a leash. If yours reacts to it we route the walk away from the crossings and keep the leash short near the tracks, and we note it in the care file so a substitute sitter does the same. Tell us at the consultation rather than letting the sitter discover it.

We live on five acres off a county road. Will the sitter find us?

Yes, and that is exactly why we assign a sitter who knows the difference between a Timberbrook cul-de-sac and a five-acre place off a county road. Rural addresses are where GPS gets creative, so we confirm the actual turn-in at the consultation rather than trusting a pin. There is no surcharge for being out there.

Can we meet the Justin sitter before committing to anything?

Free, at your home, no obligation. For rural Justin properties this is the visit where we sort out gates, outbuildings, water sources, which fence has a gap, and where a dog goes when a storm rolls through. It is also where you decide whether you actually want this person in your house.
